A ziplock container lid for spawning site. Floated both fish, until got temp up to 82, released Bub. He made a nest on the side of the tub during the night.
1/10/12: Upon seeing the nice and big nest (though not thick, so I'm worried about it falling apart) I released Chloe. Bub is flaring at her but leaving her alone otherwise. She goes head down when he comes near her.
1/11/12: Side note - today is my son's 5th birthday!
Spawn wise, Chloe has been hiding in the moss since the last update. I keep thinking she's getting herself stuck. But she's not stressed at all, not pale, clamped, or striped in the good or the bad way. Bub is trying to build about 10 different nests, probably to entice her. She did come out a bit tonight to explore, so hopefully things start moving along!
1/12/12. Still no action. Chole looks like a CT, but I think it's her own doing from hiding out in moss. Bubs built a VERY nice, substantial nest. Chloe's coming out a little more. Getting impatient! Thinking of cupping her so she's forced to see him, maybe it'll help things along. (per Jackie's advice)
1/13/12: Eggs! I don't think they were done, but I took Chloe out. There look to be 50 eggs.

He hasn't been hungry, he was fed last on the 12th. I've always fed my males with no issues during rearing. I honestly believe that I pulled the female too quickly - she was still fat - and that that was only the first few squeezes result of eggs. I think they were not fertile, from both fish's' inexperience. Thus far, I haven't decided if I'll be trying them again. In the meantime I will recondition them both.
